Good job on the video. Not sure if you still monitor this, but my HB-1B will no longer let me hold down SET and hear the S, I or T. No mater how long I hold when I lift my finger it plays CQ. Any idea how to fix that? I tried a full reset with no luck. Thanks! 73

Low swr at the rig end of the approx 40 foot coax doesn't guarantee it's that low at the antenna feedpoint. The coax transforms the impedance. Only if the feedline is 1/2-wave long (1/2-wave times the velocity factor factor of the coax) can you be assured that the swr at the rig is the same as at the antenna.

Regarding your antenna, I would just make a 2 meter j-pole from copper water pipe, it would be very wind resistant and is very short.

I know this was posted years ago but I went through HD as well, had some bad experiences but some good ones too. My tile guy for the backsplash had no clue what he was doing, and he had to rip it all out twice including redoing the backer board each time. I had to go with a different tile than originally purchased because he wasn't technically skilled enough (and didn't have the tools) to cut, place and grout this type of tile. I decided to cut my losses on him and just went with an easier tile. Eventually it looked right. The reason I responded is to say the reason I went with HD, knowing full well it's a toss up who you're going to get, is that they are a large company who isn't skipping town overnight. Contractors come and go, you might never see your contractor again if you hire one from some Angies list or something like that. At least I was able to use HD's GC to push things and force this guy to redo the work.

Low vswr DOES NOT indicate resonance. Lowest vswr does not occur at resonance, nor does resonance occur at the lowest vswr point. Trees absolutely have an effect on antennas. So does ground conductivity, etc. THIS IS ALL BEGINNER ANTENNA 101. YOU SHOULD HAVE LEARNED WHEN YOU STUDIED FOR YOUR TEST! 90% of hams nowadays dont know shit. Literally DO NOT know ANYTHING. Thanks for the video. I just installed my antenna "same model" today. It installed with no problem and used RTV silicone sealer as well. I used a Nano VNA to tune the antenna and got the SWR down to 1.23:1 on 2mtr and 1.3:1 on 440. Not bad at all! My car is made of a lot of plastic and glass top for sun roof so I did not have many antennas to choose from but this glass mount "same model" worked great and fit my needs. I am going to put on some ferrite beads at the antenna end of the coax. If I move the coax a lot then the SWR will change. Installing some beads should cure that problem. Thanks WB9KQF

This is the tornado I saw outside of my home before it was demolished completely. Absolute monster tornado, The El Reno...

I saw the same thing at my house the day before yesterday and caught it on camera. But I also caught something else on camera that I didn’t realize. The light bursts and bolts were going on behind the cloud but in front of the cloud was a small light fluttering around. Also I had no winds, no forecast for rain, and only where the sky was lighting up was there a huge cloud. The rest of the sky was perfectly clear. This wasn’t far away. It was very close to my home so there should have been the sound of thunder. And this went on for hours not moving. It stayed at the same spot in the sky with the flashes following a 1-2-3 pattern.

This sucks man. I was just watching all the seasons again, then find out about Matt, then Joel, now finding out about this. I know I’m very late to it but still. Damn.

I’ve heard of people running with just the resonator. I have a 53”(?) mast and 75, 40 & 20 meter resonators. I mounted 3/8x24 mount on back corner of truck bed. I’ve tried going 55 mph on a 2 highway and it held up ok. I’ll have to get a 3/8 stud and try mounting a resonator to see how it works to save wind resistance and height clearance.
